MTES ELL Supports
MTES ELL Supports
Our program, in accordance with Ohio Law, works to provide equal educational opportunities to students who are acquiring English as a new language, so they can attain English proficiency in order to achieve mastery of the State’s learning standards. Such instruction takes place during the regular school day.
-
At Miami Trace Elementary School, our goal is for ELL students to develop fluency in English by using the Push-In/ Pull-Out Model.
- Push-In provides English Language Development instruction in the student’s classroom utilizing the ELL Support Staff and the classroom teacher working alongside the Emergent English learning student. Students will receive instruction in English and have access to native language support if needed.
- Pull-Out provides English Language Development instruction to the Emerging English learning student outside of the mainstream classroom for a specific block of time utilizing the ELL Support Staff. Students will receive instruction in English and have access to native language support if needed.
-
All new families to the Miami Trace School District should fill out the Language Use Survey, found at education.ohio.gov. This Language Use Survey will be kept in the student’s cumulative folder.
After determining the students as potential English Learners, MTLSD will assess these students using the Ohio English Language Proficiency Screener (OELPS).
The ELL staff will notify parents of the English Learner identification and determine if they wish for their child to receive ELL services.

An EL student is considered Proficient when the student has obtained any score combination of 4s and 5s across all non-exempt domains.
